The question most business owners save for the very end of a discovery call is the one they actually care about most, so let’s just start there: how much does a branding photoshoot cost? In the Chicago area, a branding photoshoot can run anywhere from about $300 for a quick mini session to $10,000 or more for a full production day with video. Most established business owners end up investing somewhere between $2,500 and $5,000 for a complete session.
That range is wide because the sessions themselves are wildly different, and once you understand what changes as the price goes up, choosing gets much easier. This is the guide I wish existed when women call me having already gotten three quotes that all look the same on the surface.
Branding photography cost in Chicago by session type
Branding photography around Chicago falls into four rough price bands, and here is the honest lay of the land.
| Type of session | Typical Chicago range | What you generally get |
|---|---|---|
| Mini session or headshot event | $300 to $500 | A short shoot and a small handful of images |
| Hourly | $500 to $1,200 per hour | Varies widely, often with a set number of edited images |
| Half day branding session | $1,500 to $5,000 | Multiple outfits, a few setups, a working image library |
| Full production day | $5,000 to $10,000 and up | Multiple locations, styling, and often video |
None of those numbers tell you much on their own, though, because two photographers charging the same amount can be offering completely different things.
Session fee plus per image, or all inclusive: how photographers price
Most branding photographers price one of two ways, and the model matters more than the sticker price.
Session fee plus per image. You pay something in the range of $400 to $600 to book the shoot, then buy the images you want afterward at roughly $100 to $250 each.
All inclusive. One flat rate covers the session, the planning, and every edited image. You know the total before you show up.
At Ann & Kam Photography, our branding sessions are all-inclusive because 1. I don’t believe you should have to do the extra work of finding a hair and makeup team and venue if you don’t want to and 2. I want you to have a wide selection of images available to you as your marketing channels grow and develop.
In fact, I used to do per-image pricing until recently because that is what my mentors recommended, but after seeing it force my clients to cut images that they might need down the line, I decided to make a change.

What is not included in a branding photography quote
The extras that most often sit outside a quoted price are studio rental, hair and makeup, retouching, travel and location fees, and commercial usage rights. The gap between the quote and the final total is where most of the frustration lives, so here is what to ask about before you book.
| What to ask about | What it typically runs if it is not included | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Studio access | Roughly $75 to $200 per hour around Chicago, often with add-on fees for lighting, backdrops, and cleaning | A rental clock means your session is shaped by the hours booked, not by what you actually need |
| Hair and makeup | Around $200 per person in the Chicago area | If it is not included, you are the one booking the artist and coordinating the timing around your shoot time |
| Retouching | Around $25 to $75 per image | You do not know how many images you want until you see the gallery, which is when the bill grows |
| Travel and location fees | Varies, plus parking and permits at some locations | Ask what the boundary is and what happens if you want to shoot somewhere outside it |
| Commercial usage rights | Sometimes an extra license fee | You are buying permission to use the images, and the scope of that permission is set by the contract |
Two quotes that both say $2,500 can be $2,500 and $3,200 once hair and makeup and a few retouched images are added in, and the second one also costs you an afternoon of coordinating.
At Ann & Kam Photography all of this is already inside the price. The studio is my own home in Barrington, so there is no rental clock running. Hair and makeup is included in every session, and if we are shooting on location I bring my hair and makeup team to you. There are no travel fees anywhere in the Chicago area, every image in your gallery is fully edited, and commercial usage rights are included.

Why branding sessions cost more than headshots
A branding session costs more because of scope and strategy, not because of fancier equipment. The jump from a $490 headshot to a $4,000 branding session buys a different kind of shoot, not a nicer camera.
At the higher tiers you are paying for a planning call that maps every image to a real place in your marketing, professional hair and makeup on site, multiple outfits and setups, posing direction through every single frame, and a gallery large enough to run your website, LinkedIn, email, and social media for a year or two.
A headshot introduces you. A branding session tells the whole story of what you do.

How many photos do you get from a branding session?
A headshot event typically delivers a small number of polished images, and a full Signature Brand Session at Ann & Kam Photography delivers 60 to 80 fully edited images covering headshots, lifestyle and working shots, and detail images, all in web, social, and high resolution files. A mid-tier branding session lands in between, with a complete gallery built around one person in one place.
The number matters less than the variety. If you are posting several times a week, five headshots will be exhausted by the end of the month, and that is the real reason women come back for a bigger session the second time.

The three branding sessions are all inclusive with no per image pricing. The Modern Headshot Event works differently because it is built around a single day of short appointments: you leave with two fully edited images, and you can add more if you want them.

How to choose the right branding session for your business
Start with where the images need to live, because that answers the question faster than anything else.
If the honest answer is LinkedIn and a bio page, book the headshot event and be done. You do not need a branding session and I will tell you so on the call.
If you are updating your website and you mostly need strong portraits of yourself, that is Brand Foundation. Most Foundation clients get their work through referrals, and they need to show up well when someone looks them up.
If your website has to show what you actually do, not just who you are, that is a Signature Brand Session. Your office, your process, the details and tools that signal expertise, the images of you working. A travel advisor with maps and travel details. A home stager in a vignette she styled. A consultant at her desk, in the room where the work happens. A dentist and her team in her office.
And if you are launching or rebranding and you need video alongside the photos, that is the Full Brand Experience.
One more practical thing: Ann & Kam Photography books sessions about four to six weeks out, and finished galleries are delivered two to three weeks after the shoot. If there is a launch or a deadline on your calendar, count backward from it.
If you are not sure which session fits, that is exactly what a discovery call is for. Book one at annkam.com/contact and we will figure it out together in twenty minutes.

FAQ’s
How much does a branding photoshoot cost in Chicago?
Chicago branding photoshoots range from about $300 for mini sessions to $10,000 or more for full production days with video. Most established business owners invest between $2,500 and $5,000 for a complete session. At Ann & Kam Photography in Barrington, sessions run from $490 for the Modern Headshot Event to $7,500 for a full photo and video day.
What costs are usually not included in a branding photography quote?
Studio rental, hair and makeup, retouching, travel or location fees, and commercial usage rights are often billed separately. Around Chicago, studio rental commonly runs $75 to $200 per hour, hair and makeup about $200 per person, and retouching $25 to $75 per image. Ask which of these sit inside the quoted price before you compare two photographers on price alone.
Is hair and makeup included in a branding session?
It depends on the photographer, and it is worth asking early, because hair and makeup usually runs about $200 per person in the Chicago area. Professional hair and makeup is included in every session at Ann & Kam Photography, for one person, and additional team members are $200 each. For on-location shoots, the hair and makeup team comes to you.
Do I have to pay for images separately?
Many photographers charge a session fee and then sell images individually, often at $100 to $250 each. The three branding sessions at Ann & Kam Photography are all inclusive, so the full gallery arrives fully edited with commercial usage rights and there are no per image fees. The Modern Headshot Event works differently and delivers two edited images, with the option to add more.
Do you travel outside Barrington?
Yes. Ann & Kam Photography photographs women business owners across Chicago and the Chicago suburbs, including Chicago, Evanston, Schaumburg, Lake Forest, Winnetka, Highland Park, Northbrook, Arlington Heights, Libertyville, and Naperville. There are no travel fees anywhere in the Chicago area, and sessions can happen in the Barrington studio or at your location.
How far in advance should I book a branding photographer?
Ann & Kam Photography books about four to six weeks out, with finished galleries delivered two to three weeks after the shoot. If you are working toward a website launch or another deadline, count backward from that date when you book.
