ABOUT

Personal Branding & portrait Photographer  Barrington, Illinois | Chicago Suburbs

There are photographers who take pictures. And there are photographers who pay attention.

Most of the women who come to my studio tell me the same thing. They haven't liked a photo of themselves in years. They're not sure this will be different.
It is different. But not for the reason they expect.
It's different because I actually believe something most photographers don't say out loud: every woman can look and feel like herself in front of a camera. Strong. Real. Recognizable. Not a polished version of someone else, not a LinkedIn headshot that could belong to anyone. Herself.
That belief is where everything I do starts.

Every woman can look and feel like herself in front of a camera. Strong. Real. Recognizable. Beautiful.

I've been a professional photographer for fifteen years. Weddings for most of that time, all over Chicago. But what always pulled at me was portraiture.
I started photographing women over 40. Women who had been avoiding the camera for years, who had never had a portrait they loved, who wanted to be documented at this stage of their lives as the full, complicated, beautiful people they actually were. That work became the 40 Over 40 Experience.
Then something interesting happened. The women I was photographing started asking for something more. They were coaches, consultants, realtors, business owners. They needed the same quality of image for their work. They needed to look like themselves on their websites and on LinkedIn, not like a stock photo or a camera phone snapshot.
That's how the branding work grew. Not as a separate thing, but as an extension of the same belief.

The approach is identical: I want every woman to walk out of my studio with photos that feel true. Whether those images end up on her wall or her website is almost beside the point.
When we moved from Chicago to Barrington, everything finally had room to become what it was supposed to be. We had the space. A warm mid-century modern home studio where clients are greeted by our dog Rumi and an all-female creative team. And I was in my forties. That mattered more than I expected. I understood something about this stage of life, from the inside, that I couldn't have understood before.

Who I Am

Behind the camera

I'm both a creative and a business person.

That combination is rarer than it sounds, and it's what makes the work actually useful.
I hold a master's degree in Ethnomusicology, a discipline built on listening carefully to people, understanding how they tell their stories, and documenting what's real. I also hold an MBA. So when I'm working with a business owner, I understand what her images need to do strategically, not just aesthetically.
Clients tell me I'm calm in the studio. Relaxed. That I make them forget there's a camera. I think that's because I'm not performing for them. I'm paying attention to them. There's a difference. And for a woman who hasn't loved a photo of herself in years, that difference is everything.

The team

While our on-set team will take care of you, our business has been a family affair from the start.

My husband and business partner Kam brings a background in architecture and an eye for space, structure, and light that quietly informs everything we shoot. He leads our video work, and our collaborator Geraldine rounds out the cinema team when clients want video as part of their creative suite.
Every session is supported by a dedicated hair and makeup artist, coordinated by our team. You don't arrive and figure it out. You arrive and get taken care of.

Some people come just to
hang out with Rumi

hello there.

What It Feels Like to Work with Me

You don't need to know how to pose. You don't need to know what to wear or what to bring or how to look confident on camera. That's my job.

Your job is to show up. I'll handle everything else.
Most clients are nervous when they arrive. Almost none of them are nervous by the time they leave. The session is more fun than you expected it to be. That's not a promise I make lightly. It's just what keeps happening.
When you see your gallery, you'll look like yourself. The version of yourself you know you are. Whether that image belongs on your website, your wall, or both.
