A couple weeks ago, I posted about a breakfast parfait recipe I got from “The Perfect Recipe for Losing Weight & Eating Great” by Pam Anderson. Well, the other idea I got from this book has taken my smoothies from yummy to FANTASTIC. When the weather gets warm like this, Kamran and I really enjoy making fresh smoothies. They seem to taste especially good after our Monday night yoga classes! A couple easy changes have made our smoothies 100% better, and I was so excited that I wanted to share!
The secret to sweet, tasty, refreshing smoothies…. is LEMONS.
Ok, let’s be honest here. If there was one thing I learned in the time I spent in Central America, it’s that lemons make EVERYTHING taste good. EVERYTHING. Fruit, drinks, stews, spaghetti, it all tastes better with a little lemon. (Ok, I’m just joking about the spaghetti part, but seriously folks, lemon is da bomb)
So, if life gives you lemons, REJOICE! Lemons are yummy!
I apologize internet, I’ve been thinking of these little one-liners all weekend.
Here’s the scoop. I like to use a bunch of frozen fruit – especially frozen mangos and berries – and an overripe banana. As per Pam Anderson’s suggestion, I’ve been using vanilla soy milk as well. I really like the texture and the added vanilla flavor. I blend up a bunch of fruit, the milk, (I know, my process is very precise), and then maybe add a little bit of honey and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. And then, a WHOLE BUNCH of lemon juice. Yay! The lemon really brightens it up, and the honey gives it a little touch of added sweetness.
YUM!
Ann! This is changing my life. I can’t make a good smoothie for the life of me. I am trying this TONIGHT!
