Tips and Tricks: Be Ready to Party!

FILED IN: Tips & Ideas

Wedding season is about go into full swing, so I wanted to share a little piece of advice that may not seem like a big deal, but can make a huge difference on your wedding day.

Imagine, you’ve spent countless hours creating the perfect wedding day. From finding your dream dress to planning a party that will be fun and memorable for your guests, you’ve invested a ton of time, money and energy, and you are ready to enjoy one of the biggest days of your life.

But there is one little thing that can takeyou away from your party, your family and your friends.

It’s your bustle.

I know, it’s kind of an afterthought. How bad can it be?

Trust me, I’ve seen it with my own eyes. The bride comes back from the ceremony ready to relax and enjoy her reception, but instead spends her precious time trying to get her bustle tied. One bride spent over an hour in the coatroom trying to get her bustle to stay up, and later emerged with a big piece of black duct tape holding up her train.  (The duct tape was kind of a joke – and hilarious – but even that didn’t stick!)

Other brides struggle with holding up their train while trying to enjoy their first dance with their new husbands. It’s awkward, heavy, and can cause you to trip. You just don’t want to worry about it when you are enjoying your first moments of married life.

So ask your bridesmaids to practice tying your bustle with you. I’ve seen bustles with 10 or more ties, they can be VERY complicated. With a little practice, you can get your bustle tied up in no time.

Wear your dress around the house with the bustle tied to make sure it stays up. Dance around a little bit, really try it out. Sometimes those ribbons are slick, and the weight of your train can cause them to untie or pull them out altogether.

Pack a few diaper pins just in case. Not little safety pins, but diaper pins that can hold the weight of your dress. If you pin them up under your skirt, you won’t see them anyway.

And relax and enjoy!
