When I was a baby, my family started a new tradition. Each summer, my Dad’s entire family – my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins included – would gather for a week in the Northwoods. As kids, we waited all year in anticipation of our trips to the “Vacation House”, really a small resort on Lake Thompson in northern Wisconsin. For a week we swam, played, water-skied, fished, and enjoyed the freedom of summer. Most of all, we spent time together.
As we got older, it got harder for the kids – now working or in college – to make it up North. My parents thought about making their long-time dream a reality, and eventually found their own place on a lake with a perfect view of the Wisconsin sunsets.
Kamran and I don’t make it up very often, but when we do, we savor every second. This weekend we managed to escape the city for a couple days to refresh our minds and our bodies with the peace of the Northwoods and the company of family. We even managed to squeeze in a little photoshoot to take advantage of the beautiful light and picturesque setting.
Oh, and if you ever need help with your bonfires, give me a call. I’m pretty good at getting things started. 🙂
Ah! What an amazing escape. Love love.
