Building Anticipation

FILED IN: personal

Excitement is building over here in Ann & Kam-Land!  After two long years, Kamran’s parents are finally coming back to visit!  We’ve been spending most of our free time trying to decide what fun Chicago activities we’re going to do with them when they come, but we’re mostly looking forward to just hanging out and being together again.  Also, Kamran’s mom might just be the best cook ever, so we’re not-so-secretly dreaming of evenings around the dinner table.

We’ve been looking through our photos of their last visit, when we had time to travel a bit.  We saw some of my favorite places in Wisconsin, and took a trip out to California to see more friends and family members.  Looking back and remembering how sweet their last visit was makes us even more excited to see them.

But seriously, we need some help thinking of fun and unique Chicago-style adventures.  What are your favorite things to do/see/eat with your out-of-town guests?  Help!

Kam looks just like his dad! You should definitely do the architectural boat tour! That is my favorite ever!

We love it too! but we did it last time they came… That’s the hard part, what do we do on a second visit…

Could you guys do any of the evening events during the week that are going on… like movies in the park, see a show, or jazz at the adler (I think there is such a thing)? Hit up a museum they didn’t see last time? Also – love the pictures from last time they visited! Yay Madison/Milwaukee! 🙂

  4. Amanda Miller says:

Movies in the park, for sure! It is such a great time! Or one of the free Millenium Park shows.

Botanic Gardens on the north shore! When my mam and sister were in town we went up there by way of the Baha’i temple. It made for a great day out. You can also do guided neighborhood tours that take you round all the best local eateries, although I can’t remember the site so you’ll have to google it.

Honestly, my favorite things to do with people tend to revolve around restaurants 🙂 If they’re foodies, the possibilities are endless.
If they’re coming in Fall you could go apple picking (or to a pumpkin patch) outside of the city somewhere. I like to take advantage of the free museum passes from the library too. Also, live jazz somewhere would be a classic Chicago thing to do!

There are two zoos in Chicago-land: Lincoln Park and Brookfield. Both are awesome in different ways. But I might be biased…I always go to the zoo where ever I am….:)

  8. Ann Oleinik says:

We actually live really close to the Lincoln Park Zoo, and walk through it fairly regularly! Kam’s mom likes to walk, so I imagine we’ll be going back!

  9. Ann Oleinik says:

Same here! There are almost too many restaurants to choose from… Free museum passes are a great suggestion!

Ooh, yeah, Kam’s mom loves gardens, that should definitely be on our list. A guided neighborhood tour sounds awesome.

  11. Ann Oleinik says:

We’ll have to see if there are any movies in the park still going on. Hopefully there will be something at Millenium Park!
