Little Things

FILED IN: personal

As small business owners, our jobs involve doing a lot of different tasks that normal offices divide up between different departments.  Shooting, editing, marketing, bookkeeping, blogging, customer service, it’s all handled by Kamran and I.  There must be something off in the minds of small business owners that makes us say “We can do it!  We can do it!” as we take on more and more.

Most of the time, we get along ok.  We get a little overwhelmed at times, but we try to use our creativity to find systems that help us get things done with less stress.

But there are some things that just get the better of us.  Simple things that shouldn’t be a big deal can totally put us over the edge.

Ironing is one of those things.

Maybe we just have a terrible iron.  It sputters and shoots water all over, and may or may not get our clothes nice and crisp.  Maybe we’re not doing it right.  Maybe we’re just incompetent b/c haven’t people been ironing successfully for decades?

For a long time wedding mornings have just been our (well, Kamran’s) time to battle with the iron.  Every week it’s: budget extra time, get totally frustrated, take longer than you thought, leave the house really unhappy.

We finally gave up with our attempt to do EVERYTHING ourselves, and brought Kamran’s shirts to the dry cleaner last week.  We gave up.  We are NOT superhumans.  We can run businesses and create beautiful photos and delight our clients, but we draw the line at ironing.  It’s just too much.

And let me tell you, it was the best decision ever.  Or at least the best decision of the week.  We shot two weddings this weekend, and left the home calm, collected, excited, and on time.  For $2 a shirt.

Win.

And, sometimes Kamran brings me orchids just because.

So here’s to dry cleaners and orchids – happy Monday!

Oh girl…I HATE ironing! I use this secret weapon called the dryer. 😉 Good for you for outsourcing…I think this is totally a business expense! 🙂

I feel you on this…I always feel like my dresses/blouses don’t ever look as crisp and nice as I want them to be after all that ironing work.

We can't wait to hear from you!
