Giving Thanks

FILED IN: personal

Apparently, no matter how old I am, there are some things that just make me feel safe and comfortable.  When I started to get a little stomach ache last weekend, my first thought was, “Kamran, I need you to go to the grocery store and get me some Mrs. Grass’s soup.  STAT!”  Ok, maybe I didn’t yell it out like a member of SEAL Team 6, but I was pretty sure that my Dad’s favorite chicken soup would make me better.

Well, that little stomach ache turned into a few days in the hospital, but I was covered.  Kam brought me a nice, soft, blanket, and Mom sent me new pajamas and fuzzy slippers.  Seriously, some things never change.

And now, since getting out, my diet pretty much consists entirely of cinnamon toast and pudding, a la Dad and Grandma.  This thing doesn’t stand a chance.

But really, I’m just so grateful to be surrounded by such an amazing family.  I remember getting sick once right after I first moved to Chicago, and feeling totally helpless because I simply didn’t know anybody I could call.  And now, I have a husband who will stay with me no matter how stressful or scary things get.  A guy who doesn’t hesitate to find me life-giving soup and soft blankets, and spend the night in the hospital with me.  Sometimes I need to remember how lucky I am.

So even though it’s a few days after Thanksgiving, I’m still Giving Thanks.

I totally missed the whole hospital thing but I am so glad you are OK! And I LOVE that picture of you guys! Hopefully I’ll see you both on the 17th!

    We’ll be there! Can’t wait!

I’m glad the Oleinik remedies worked. Good thing you didn’t have a cough. It would have been Ginger Brandy (also known as liquid fire) to the rescue.

Ahhhh, so glad you are better! And thank goodness for Mrs. Grass and amazing spouses! 🙂

We can't wait to hear from you!
