Kathy and John’s Whimsical Wedding

FILED IN: Weddings

The first time I talked to Kathy, I think she was surprised when I suggested that we could do something fun for their photosession.  We talked about how Kathy and John shared a love of acting, and thought about ways that we could use that to make their wedding photos totally unique to them.

I was totally tickled when Kathy told me that they decided they wanted to do a funny photoshoot.  I think “inappropriate” was the word they used.  We joked about all the possibilities – lounging on chaises, running through the woods,  all those things that so many wedding magazines take so seriously.  And a playground.  They really wanted a photoshoot in a playground.  Can I say how much I love these two?

Their wedding was lovely – personal, funny, full of close friends and dear family members.  We really really enjoyed being there.

Kathy just had to have a picture diving into her dress:

So lovely…

John was looking pretty dapper himself…

The ceremony was held outside at the lovely Birdhaven Conservatory in Joliet.  These gorgeous trees provided plenty of shade as well as beautiful backlighting.

I have to admit, Kamran totally set up this shot.  I bugged a few of the kids present to go blow their bubbles right at the bride and groom while they stood in the receiving line while he watched John and Kathy with the camera.  I’m pretty sure their parents thought I was nuts, but the look on John’s face here is priceless:

Bucking tradition, Kathy and John picked out a nearby park for their photos:

The guys were really enjoying the playground:

The gentlemen are looking pretty bad-ass on those swings:

It took us a little while to coordinate this, but I think it turned out awesome:

I still get a little nervous before shooting weddings.  This is pretty much what I’m afraid everybody is thinking:  (of course, it was all in good fun!)

Kathy looked so happy here.  And that’s pretty much how the day was – filled with genuine smiles.  I also have to give Kamran credit here for catching this shot with bubbles and balloons!

One more dancing pic.  I love the look on John’s face, and of course the bubbles and balloons again.  ðŸ™‚
